The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.
The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.
If you have a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
